WIAW #5

You are starting to know the drill, it’s Wednesday so here is my What I Ate Wednesday blog post. Today I am taking you back to last Saturday when I was in Amsterdam for the 10K We Own the Night race (you can read my London WOTN race recap here).

I went to Amsterdam with Lissy, Charlie and my sister. The girls had scouted out where to get the best food in Amsterdam and I just followed them blindly. We first went to a Pancake house called Pancakes! Amsterdam. We had to queue to get in but it was totally worth it. I ordered one of their breakfast deal, which included some fresh orange juice and some tea. I like the fact they bring you hot water and a selection of tea to choose from. I love even more the fact that whenever you order a hot drink, you get a sweet treat with it.20140610-220559-79559777.jpg

I first put the mini waffle in my bag to save for later but then realised how crazy that was and ate it. Then I had the giant blini with smoked salmon, creme fraiche and chives. Sooooooo yummy.

We then had a stroll around and rented bikes (it’s true what they say, you don’t forget how to ride :D) in search for the electric museum. We went to the wrong entrance and so decided to go for a beer at the pub. I had a Brand white beer and a quest bar.

We then hopped on our bikes again in search of a chocolate shop. Unfortunately it was closed. We did not let ourselves be defeated by this and got back on our bike in search of the Taart van m’n Tante cake shop.

We were not disappointed. They had beautiful cakes. I settled for the pecan pie and some tea. It was delicious. I want to try to make one! Let me know in the comments if you know a good pecan pie recipe.

It was then time to give the bikes back and get ready for the race. We found a grill restaurant and I had some grilled chicken, salad and….french fries. They came in a separate plate and I forgot to take a picture of them.

The race was a couple of hours later (we started running at 22h45). How do you think I got on? Come back to the blog this week end for a race recap.

After the race we were handed a goody bag containing some Vita Coco coconut water and a voucher for some frozen yogurt. I find it difficult to say no to free food (we will have to talk about that again and office cake policy) so went to get my apple and cinnamon frozen yogurt. I only had half as I was then starting to feel quite cold and just wanted to get changed by that point.

Finally, the evening ended with a cup of fresh mint tea and another little biscuit (I told you they give a treat with every hot drink).

Sooooo, should we talk about how this was not the most healthy eating day? Then again, I ate pancakes followed by cake before the London WOTN and smashed my 10K PB… If you  check my previous WIAW posts you’ll see that I usually try to keep it on the healthy eating side. I guess it’s all about balance and indulging once in a while.

Looks like you had a fab time – jealous! By the way, have you had a look at iherb.com for Quest Bars? I don’t know if it’s cheaper than Amazon, but that’s where I get mine anyway!

  5. Amsterdam! I’ve only been there once before but it was fondness at first sight. I can’t even pinpoint out what exactly fascinated me but just the overall flair. Did you get to take a boat tour on the town canals, too? Awesome that you got to tour the city and then run a race either way. I hope it was fun.
