When it comes to unicorns or music, Charlie is always a step ahead. She’s agreed to share with us her favourite songs to listen to when running. If you are running the London Marathon this weekend, I think you should add them to your playlist.
Off to Charlie:
So for me music is super important! My family have always played music loudly throughout the house, my brother is a musician, and I even worked on radio for a few years as a Producer. Generally I cannot get out of bed until I have switched my radio on so it only seemed right that music would keep me company as my runs got longer. I can listen to most things but I crave a good beat whether that be to dance to or to act as a metronome whilst out on the road. I find that music has the ability to completely change your mood and often plants a goofy smile on my face regardless of whether my run is going to plan. So without further ado here are some of my favourite tracks to run to…
N3gus – Walk The Walk
Possibly unknown to most but this track has a super steady beat and the lyrics “if you’re gonna talk the talk you’ve got to walk the walk” seemed fitting just before my first marathon – I talked about it non stop so couldn’t not go out there and get it done!
Beyonce – Partition
If Beyonce can’t make you feel sexy and empowered when you run I honestly don’t know who can!
Michael Jackson – The Way You Make Me Feel
Michael Jackson makes me smile regardless of where I am, what I am doing or how I feel. The problem is which MJ track do you choose. Maybe for my next race it should be Speed Demon
Snoop Dogg vs David Guetta – Sweat remix
Ok so it’s super cheesy but well firstly it’s called “Sweat” which you will probably be doing whilst out on the road and also you cannot deny that the beat is catchy!
DJ Fresh – Golddust
This track has so so much energy and well has me bouncing in my seat as I write this! (I agree, perhaps don’t have it at the beginning of your playlist or you’ll start running too fast hehe)
Maroon 5 – Harder to Breathe
Ok another cheesy one but you can’t but smile at the title of this one. It came on as I was running Manchester Marathon and well at the time I thought hold on, I can breathe, I am still running, I’m 16 or however many miles in and I’m still breathing steadily and running! Yippee! Definitely a PMA – positive mental attitude track
Blackstreet – No Diggity
This isn’t really a huge running song but it is my favourite song of all time so I couldn’t not have this on here. It’s just a down right funky tune that makes me pull one of those faces when you just feel good, so if you just apply that to your legs you know you are onto something good!
Kings of Tomorrow – Fall For You
Ok, so excuse the long intro but once this song kicks in gives the hint of summer vibes with once again a perfectly steady beat. For me this song evokes thoughts of a chilled beach which I am running towards… Oh and there’s a cocktail waiting for me at the end!
Rihanna – S&M
Back to a bit of cheese but a strong female voice and well we all know you can’t help but dance to a bit of Rihanna at a party!
Ten walls – Walking With Elephants
There are no lyrics to this song just amazingly atmospheric sounds. This track came on whilst I was in the middle of a 24hour race. Imagine, it’s 3 in the morning, you are running through the woods with just a head torch and moon light for light. This track just creates a sense of calm, perfect for any mid race stresses/concerns.
